- Ubuntu is a community developed operating system that can be used on laptops, desktops and servers. It includes several applications, such as word processing, email, web server software and programming tools. Ubuntu is available free of charge to anyone. A new desktop and server version is released every six months. Ubuntu is based on Debian GNU/Linux but with a strong focus on ease of installation and use.
