BIDS ERIC and BEI Education Service
Two bibliographic databases for education, supplied by Ovid Technologies. ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) is sponsored by the US Department of Education and corresponds to the printed indexes Resources in Education (RIE) and Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE). ERIC indexes over 775 periodicals and has over 700 000 records, dating from 1966 onwards. Coverage includes research documents, journal articles, technical reports, program descriptions and evaluations, and curricular materials. The British Education Index (BEI) is compiled and edited at the University of Leeds and provides bibliographic references to 350 British and selected European English-language periodicals in the field of education and training, from 1986 onwards, plus developing coverage of national report and conference literature. Subscription required.

Big Blue
A JISC-funded project examining standards currently in place within information skills training programs. The aim is to consider the effectiveness of courses, with a view to improving the information literacy of UK FE and HE students. Provides details of the background and context of the project, progress reports, and key deliverables.

CYFERNet: Children, Youth and Families Education and Research Network
Provides research-based information divided into four sections: 'Child', including resources tackling special needs, literacy, guidance and discipline, abuse, and health and safety; 'Youth', providing material dealing with sexuality, drugs and violence prevention; 'Parent and Family', offering information relating to aging, family policy, lifestyle and parenting education; and 'Community', a section addressing diversity, environmental health and welfare reform. Also includes a selection of resources aimed at professionals, and information about community projects.

International Archive of Education Data
Project established to acquire and disseminate data collected by national, state, local and private organisations, to serve the needs of academics, policy makers and researchers in the field of education. Includes input to education (funding, personnel, teaching resources, facilities, teacher and student preparation), details of processes by which teaching and learning occur, and the output of education (graduation and matriculation rates, drop-out rates, test scores, job placements, life histories and life assessments).

JISC Plagiarism Advisory Service
The Plagiarism Advisory Service, funded by the JISC, is based in the Information Management Research Institute at Northumbria University. It aims to raise awareness of plagiarism in the academic community by providing generic advice for institutions, academic staff, and students, offering educational tools for students, a portal to external online resources on the issue of plagiarism, and guidance on related copyright and data protection issues. It also provides links to the electronic detection service and training on its use. All reports are available in Microsoft Word and PDF.
