ALA CONFERENCE COMMITTEE PROPOSES CHANGES

The ALA Conference Committee has presented a series of
recommendations for ways to improve the scheduling of ALA conferences
in its study document "Options for the Future" and invites all ALA
members to provide feedback and suggestions. The study document
(1998-99 CD#38) represents the work of the committee over the last two
years. It has been distributed to the division Board of Directors and
chair of the Program Committee in paper copy and is also posted at the
ALA web site at http://www.ala.org/alaorg/council/conference/.

Prior to Midwinter, send your comments to Mary Ghikas at
mghikas@ala.org or in written form to 50 East Huron Street, Chicago,
IL 60611; or to the chair of the ALA Conference Committee, Mary Ann
Rupert, at marupert@aol.com or 49 Gov. Wentworth Road, Amherst, NH
03031.

The ALA Conference Committee will hold two information sessions
during the Midwinter Meeting. The first, to be held on Sunday,
January 31, from 8:00-9:00 a.m. in the ALA Council room in the
Philadelphia Convention Center, is primarily for Councilors to gather
opinions and suggestions. All Midwinter attendees are welcome to
observe.

The second information session, also on Sunday, January 31, from
12:00-2:00 p.m. in the ALA Council room in the Philadelphia Convention
Center, will be an informal question and answer and feedback session.
Special invitations will be sent to program planners in each division
and round table, but all interested members are encouraged to
participate. Please bring a brown bag lunch. Soft drinks and cookies
will be provided. In order to help planners get an accurate estimate
of refreshments needed, members who know they will be attending are
asked to notify Mary Ghikas at mghikas@ala.org.
